MAA Workshop on Mathclass.org
Paul Eakin, Carl Eberhart, Ken Kubota
White Hall Classroom Building 313
April 6-7
A brief tutorial introduction to the mathclass.org project.
Mathclass.org
is the home of wqs2, a web-based support system for the teaching of
mathematics-intensive subjects. Its primary purpose is saving teacher’s time
through the use of technology to facilitate teacher-student and teacher-teacher
communication. Mathclass.org is the
host site for the KEMTP project.
In mathematics
instruction the management of certain routine homework and
supplemental materials offer
significant potential time savings
through the automation of distribution, evaluation, feedback, and record keeping.
Individual Kentucky
mathematics teachers (including
teaching assistants and pre-service
teachers) can acquire, free of charge, accounts on the wqs2 system
through which they provide homework to their students. The system tools allows
individual teachers or collaborating
groups of teachers to create and
post homework assignments and
instructional materials for their students from home computers.
The wqs2 system, as it applies to an individual class is
completely under the control of
the teacher.
This is a one hour tutorial for Kentucky math teachers on the acquisition and use of their WQS teacher account. (Guest accounts will be available for out of state teachers.)
Participants will register as a teacher, create a class, and install a homework list.
